The superior handsfree speech facility with adjustable volume control permits flexibility and freedom of movement while on the phone. Thus you can carry out other tasks while you are chatting. Using an attachable earpiece (available as an optional accessory), you can talk discreetly on the phone while yet having your hands free. Operating the cordless phone is simple. Using the central five-way controls, you can navigate through the self-explanatory icon menu on the handset?s large, illuminated color display (65,000 colors, 128 x 160 pixels).

Apart from names, up to three telephone numbers, e-mail address and birthday can be stored for each record in the telephone directory. There is room for up to 250 of these visiting card entries in phone book of the Gigaset SL550 and SL555. Contacts in the handset can be dialed simply by voice command. There is no longer any need to enter contact data by hand either. Attaching the cordless phone to the PC using the data cable supplied enables direct export of address book entries into the cordless phone?s memory. Similarly, polyphonic ringer melodies and background photos downloaded from the PC to the cordless phone allow the handset to be personalized according to individual requirements.

By allocating different ringer melodies - and even photos for up to 25 entries - to individual callers or a VIP group, you can hear and see immediately who is calling (picture CLIP). If you want to be undisturbed but still reachable at home, you can use the vibration alarm. In addition, the Gigaset SL555 has a high-performance digital answering machine for recording up to 35 minutes of messages.

You can use the new SL-class Gigasets to do more than make phone calls. Text messages (SMS) are becoming increasingly popular on the landline network too. The Gigasets SL550 and SL555 can send messages with up to 640 characters. Even e-mails can be sent via SMS. Now you can enjoy reading your text messages again later, because the handset can store up to 50 SMS messages in four separate in-boxes.

Up to six handsets can be registered and used on the Gigaset SL550 base station. Moreover, you can make cordless phone calls via internet (VoIP) in combination with the Gigaset M34 USB adapter
